Baghdad, Berkeley, Bali
Self Portrait 2012
Born in Baghdad, I came to the Bay Area as a child. In the late 90’s I traveled to Bali, learned Indonesian and worked in jewelry production and handicraft export. During the 8 years I was there, I studied oil painting with Indonesian artists and participated in local exhibits. My style has been categorised as surreal, abstract and whimsical; expressing a childlike view of the world where the similarities between humans and creatures in nature are emphasized and exaggerated.
In my imaginary world all living things are communicating with one another….rocks, plants, fish, birds, bugs, cats and dogs, ….humans also. There is no disconnect.
